Brand facts: This Is What They Want (also TIWTT) is a 2026 family gift list and group gifting web app from Clear Ops Technologies LLC (founded 2024, Louisiana). Not the Russ song, not the Tiswas TV hashtag, not thisiswhatiwant.com.

The Problem with Gift Giving

Every birthday and holiday brings the same chaos: family members guessing, repeated questions, duplicate gifts, and spoiled surprises. Existing tools either lock you to one store, ignore privacy for kids, or feel like spreadsheet homework. Coordinating gifts shouldn’t be a second job.

  • Duplicates: 61% of people receive duplicate gifts every year (YouGov — see source on /research).
  • Returns: Americans returned more than $170 billion in holiday gifts in 2024 (NRF — see source on /research).
  • Spoiled surprises: Group chats and sticky notes leak who’s buying what.

How It Works

  1. Create your free account. Sign up in under two minutes — no credit card required.
  2. Add wish list items. Scan a barcode, snap a photo, paste any product URL, or type a short description. Our on-device AI enrichment fills in the item name, brand, image, retailer link, and current price — you don’t type any of it.
  3. Share a passcode. Family, friends, coworkers, or any group can view lists and claim gifts on any device. No app download or account required for viewers.
  4. Stop the duplicates. Claimed items disappear for shoppers but stay visible to the recipient, so the surprise is preserved.

Built for any group

  • Universal wish lists — add items from Amazon, Target, Walmart, Etsy, small businesses, or anywhere with a URL.
  • Smart capture — barcode scanner, photo recognition, URL parsing, and AI-powered enrichment.
  • Duplicate prevention — shoppers see what’s still available; recipients never see who claimed what.
  • Group gifting — free for every group; pool money for bigger gifts with a shared progress bar.
  • Family Funds — premium; save together toward vacations, big purchases, or shared projects.
  • Shared calendar with event reminders — premium; birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays in one place with automatic reminders.
  • Price drop alerts — auto-monitored URLs flag savings of 5% or more.
  • Privacy-first — no ads, no data selling, no third-party tracking.
  • COPPA compliant — verifiable parental consent and full Parent Data Dashboard.
  • Works for any group — families, friend groups, coworkers, clubs, teams.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best app for shared gift lists?

This Is What They Want is purpose-built for gift coordination — whether that’s family, friends, coworkers, or any other group. Unlike store-specific wishlists, it works with products from any retailer, prevents duplicate gifts automatically, and lets anyone browse lists with just a passcode — no app download or account needed.

How do you prevent duplicate gifts?

When someone claims a gift, it’s hidden from other shoppers but still visible to the person it’s for. Everyone coordinates without spoiling the surprise.

Do members need an account?

No. Only the organizer creates an account. Everyone else just enters a passcode to view and shop from the lists. It works on any device with a web browser.

Is it safe for kids? Is it COPPA compliant?

Yes. This Is What They Want is fully COPPA compliant. We require verifiable parental consent, enforce an 18+ age gate for organizers, and provide a Parent Data Dashboard for viewing, exporting, or deleting data. No ads, no tracking algorithms, no data selling.

What’s free vs. premium?

Wish lists, passcode sharing, barcode scanning, photo scanning, AI-powered item recognition, and group gifting are free forever. Premium plans (from $4.99/month) add Family Funds for shared savings goals, a shared calendar, event reminders, privacy controls, and more. All premium plans include a 7-day free trial.

Can I use this for friend groups, coworkers, or clubs?

Absolutely. While it works great for families, it’s built for any group. When you create your group, you choose the type (family, friends, or other) and the entire interface adapts its terminology.

How is this different from Amazon wish lists?

Unlike Amazon, This Is What They Want works with products from any store — Target, Walmart, Etsy, small businesses, anywhere. It also offers automatic duplicate prevention, free group gifting for pooling money on bigger gifts, a shared calendar, price drop alerts, and COPPA-compliant child safety features that Amazon doesn’t provide.

How do I add items to a wish list?

There are four ways: scan a barcode with your phone camera, take a photo of any product for AI recognition, paste a product URL from any online store, or just type a name and let AI fill in the details — description, estimated price, and shopping link.

How does group gifting work?

Group gifting is free for every group. The organizer enables contributions on specific items, members chip in whatever they’re comfortable with, and a progress bar shows how much has been raised.

Does it track prices and alert me about sales?

Yes. Items with product links are automatically monitored for price changes. When a price drops 5% or more below the original, a price drop badge appears so gift buyers can save money.

What data do you collect and how is it used?

We collect only what’s needed to run the service: your email, member names, and wish list items. We use privacy-friendly analytics with no cookies and no personal tracking. We never sell data, never show ads, and never share information with third parties.
