Summary

We collect only what is needed to run the service: your email, member names, and wish list items. We never sell your data, never show ads, and never share information with third parties for marketing. Our service is COPPA compliant and built with privacy-first defaults.

Information We Collect

  • Account information: email address, hashed password, account preferences.
  • Family/group content: member names, wish list items, photos you upload, calendar events you create.
  • Operational data: session cookies, basic device information for security and bug fixes.
  • Analytics: aggregated, privacy-friendly page views via Plausible Analytics. No cookies, no personal tracking.

COPPA Compliance — Children Under 13

This Is What They Want is designed for parents and guardians 18+ who manage their children’s wish lists. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. We require verifiable parental consent and provide a Parent Data Dashboard where parents can view, export, or delete their family’s data at any time.

How We Use Information

  • To provide and operate the service.
  • To send essential account and transactional email.
  • To improve performance, security, and reliability.
  • To enforce our Terms and Acceptable Use Policy.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or training third-party AI models.

Sharing

We share information only with limited service providers required to operate the platform: Stripe (payment processing), Replit (hosting), Google Cloud (storage and AI image recognition), and SendGrid (transactional email). We do not sell your data and do not allow these providers to use your data for their own marketing.

Your Rights

  • Access and export your data from the Parent Data Dashboard.
  • Delete your account and all associated data at any time.
  • California (CCPA) and EU/EEA (GDPR) residents have additional rights including consent withdrawal and data portability.

Data Retention & Security

We retain account data while your account is active. Deleted data is purged within 30 days. We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), encryption at rest for sensitive fields, hashed passwords, and security best practices including rate limiting, session protection, and CSP headers.
